Cai Davies

Technical Sales Adviser

Cai graduated from Harper Adams University in 2019 after studying Agriculture with Animal Science. During his time in university, he undertook a 1 year placement with AB Europe as a breeding technician.

As well as representing Innovis in South Wales and the Marches, Cai farms the upland home farm with his parents at Capel Isaac, near Llandeilo. The family were proud winners of the all Wales Texel flock competition in 2017 and again in 2019. The flock consists of 40 performance recorded pedigree Texel ewes alongside 60 commercial ewes which are recipients for embryo transfer lambs. The farm is commercially managed, no concentrate feed is given to the ewes from lambing time to housing the following winter. Good grass utilisation is key for their business in maximising ram lamb growth with stock rotationally grazing paddocks of Tyfon Stubble turnips and a mixture of permanent perennial and Italian ryegrass.

South Wales and the Marches Testimonial

Robert and Tracy Powell are making more from less having replaced a traditional hill unit with a forage focused system. Introducing Innovis forage bred and reared genetics, and Rob says:

“We have the sheep we want to do the job and they’re enabling us to reduce production costs. “Introducing the Aberfield to our Epynt Hardy ewes and swapping a portion of the Continental rams for the Abermax is enabling us to both finish lambs to target weight one week earlier and reduce ram power. We’re able to introduce the Abermax in a ratio of one to 80 ewes and the Aberfield, one to 100 ewes.”
