Semen Collection and Storage

Infertility in rams can be a major dilemma for any sheep breeder during the season. Freezing semen from rams during Autumn / Winter when they are not in use is an easy & cost-effective way to ensure that breeders get maximum gain from them. Innovis has an impressive track record in semen freezing which enables us to offer clients an enviable high quality semen freezing service for use in the UK or for export.

Semen Freezing is carried out at our Centres in Malvern and Edinburgh

The average ram will produce up to 40 doses of semen per day (up to 200 doses per week).Rams are penned individually within sight & smell of “in-season” teaser ewes.  The rams are trained to “jump” the teaser ewe & a semen sample is collected into an artificial vagina.

Semen is assessed and only the best quality semen retained for freezing. Our specialist facilities use IMV Technologies straw freezing equipment.
Peace of mind and the ultimate form
of insurance!

TW Helyer's Leader Again

"Freezing is ideal for the storage of ram semen for insurance purposes and for economic gain on the sales of semen.  We own a ram that was first choice at Elite Texel Sires selection day, the ram was produced using frozen semen, with sire and grandsire also produced using frozen semen”

With semen from rams with performance and show records being worth £15 - £100 per ewe dose, semen sales can also give you another valuable income stream!

Infertility in rams

There are numerous reasons for infertility – from infection or feet problems to heat stress or the stress of showing.  Spermatozoa take 6-8 weeks to develop within the ram’s testicles so any stress to the ram two months before use can affect his fertility. Why leave things to chance when semen freezing offers you a simple solution?

Is your new ram fertile and ready for work?
Innovis veterinarians offer ram soundness clinics - know your ram's limitations and push his boundaries!
