LLANDEGLA RAM SALE

Tuesday 21st of August

Aberfield SR rams are taking flock performance from a forage based system to the next level of efficiency says Pearce Hughes who is hosting Innovis’s ram sale at Llandegla on Tuesday 21 August. The sale catalogue features in total 130 rams including 75 Aberfield and Abermax entries.

“The Aberfield was introduced to our 1,000 ewe Lleyn and wool shedding flock three years ago and females retained for breeding purposes.

“Whilst scan percentage has been retained around the 190% to 200% mark, Aberfield SR ewes are leaving lively, easily born lambs with great power and growth.

“Male lambs are achieving 21kg maximum target dead weight from 14 weeks onwards with a good percentage in the U and E bracket.

“Furthermore, Aberfield SR ewe lambs are comfortably reaching sufficient weight (42kg) to put to the ram.”

He adds: “Whilst we were happy with previous flock performance, making one simple change by introducing the Aberfield has moved the enterprise on to the next level of performance efficiency. We are very pleased with the females and equally pleased with the males as they are achieving top grades and weights from a maternal sire.”
