KELSO RAM SALE

Friday the 31st of August

Innovis genetics are helping to future proof an 1,800 ewe flock managed on an exposed hill unit managed by Kevin Stewart who is hosting Innovis’s ram sale at Sharpitlaw, Kelso on Friday 31 August.

The sale catalogue features in total 160 rams including 25 Highlander, 55 Aberfield, 40 Abermax and eight Aberblack entries, all of which are performance recorded and reared off pure forage based systems.

We introduced the Highlander as a damline 10 years ago; since then it has enabled us to reduce costs and develop a closed high health flock running at between 800’ to 1,000’.

Highlander ewes are thrifty, resilient, hardy and averaging five crops; they make good use of forage, they lamb outdoors in April and all forms of concentrate has been eliminated.

A pure flock of Highlander ewes are retained to breed replacements and also crossed with Aberfield rams for ewe lamb production and with Aberblack rams for prime lamb production.

The flock achieves 1.65% lambs weaned and lambs are finished on forage crops between October and December grading 19.5kg at R grade or better.
