Ultrasound Muscle and Backfat Scanning    Ultrasound scanning measurements of muscle and fat depth provide important information which is used to predict the degree of muscling and leanness in the whole carcase.   These performance traits are measured by qualified technicians when cattle are between 350-500 days old. Data provided to Signet / ABRI is used to generate muscle depth and fat depth EBVs which can be used to select breeding stock with improved carcase quality.    Our experienced technicians are MLC Approved and ABRI trained and provide exclusive services to breeders right across Wales and Central/Southern England.
