Artificial Breeding Services for Dogs
Our Edinburgh Centre provides semen freezing and artificial
insemination services for dogs. These services can now be made available to Innovis clients across the UK. Our experienced team of veterinarians
have worked with a wide range of breeds from Terriers to Irish
Wolfhounds!

What is involved?
Semen is collected from the dog and assessed. Only the best quality semen is diluted and chilled for freezing 4 –5 hours later. Semen is
frozen in small pellets/straws with one pellet/straw being thawed and
re-assessed for post-thaw quality. If the dog semen is of good enough
quality we, on average, collect 3 – 4 doses per session.
If you wish to have your bitch AI’d our vets will work with you to plan the impending season of your AI bitch.
The vets will ask that you obtain progesterone levels by blood sampling
to ensure that your bitch is AI’d on the optimum day of her season and
you will then need to contact our office as soon as the bitch STARTS to
show signs of oestrus.
This service cannot be provided at short notice so please give us as
much notice as possible |
Contact us
Semen collection and freezing is primarily carried out at our Edinburgh
Centre but this can also be done at a central convenient location.
Since an “in-season” bitch is required, we try to organise to collect
semen from 6 – 8 dogs on a semen freezing day.
A series
of semen freezing sessions will be held at our Malvern and Aberystwyth
Centres during 2007 depending upon demand.

Dawn Warrington was delighted with her bitch's litter of eight flatcoat retriever pups conceived by AI. This was particularly valuable because she was able to use frozen semen from a blood line which was no longer available. |
Exporting Canine Semen
Semen can be frozen for export.
Semen which is to be exported must
satisfy the specific health protocol of the country of import, please
ensure you discuss any potential semen export before collection with one of our vets as early as possible. |
