Counting Costs - Not Just Sheep

Breeding Sheep

Innovis Workshops at NSA Events

Joining the dots to make money.

A practical guide to soil health, grass utilisation and genetics

Innovis are hosting NSA Sheep Workshops!

Sheep producers will be able to find out how to join the dots to make money by attending the Innovis hosted workshops. Soil health, grass utilisation and genetics will be three key focus areas designed to help farmers’ businesses and demonstrate where there is a return on investment.

The Innovis genetics team will demonstrate how they measure and select for traits that enable sheep to perform on forage based systems. They will explain how and when data is captured and the process of turning this information into breeding values for specific traits. Practical demonstrations will feature how to make sense of performance information and the use of electronic ID and DNA for parentage assignment. The importance of evaluating sheep in a commercial environment will also come under the microscope along with ram growing and preparation to cover large numbers of ewes.

There will be an opportunity to meet with Innovis’ customers who will also be present at the workshops sharing their first-hand experience on how changing genetics and systems have altered their approach to farming and more importantly, their bottom line.

Innovis’ Dewi Jones says: “The Innovis is looking for forward to this first-time opportunity at an NSA event to stage a workshop discussing key elements towards an efficient and sustainable sheep farming enterprise - high performance genetics and grassland management and its utilization. Our key take home messages for adoption have been carefully designed to ensure all attending sheep farmers attending will consider the workshop time well invested.”

Innovis breedlines will be showcased on the stand whilst Innovis staff will be on hand to provide further information about the genetics.
